Leigh Timmis returns after cycling the globe to headlines across the world

16 May 2017

We were delighted to sponsor and welcome home Leigh Timmis, who has spent the last seven years cycling around the globe to raise money for the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre.

We helped Leigh and the story of his amazing journey gain coverage all over the world including in the UK BBC Online and the Daily Telegraph, right the way to ABC Australia, with a few countries dotted in between, including Italy's Giornale di Brescia , Portugal’s Volta Ao Mundo , and even in Moldova on Publika TV.

Then there was pickup in India’s Mangalam news network , in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s KlixBa , France’s SFR network , and Hungary’s 24HU

Since his return, Leigh has turned into a local celebrity, the regular appearances the Derby Telegraph on Radio Derby and BBC East Midlands Today.

He is now taking his inspirational tale around schools and to businesses, talking about how anything in life is achievable if you set your mind to it.

His epic adventure saw him have several brushes with death, severe illness, enlightenment, euphoria and, in his own words, experience “the insanity and fragility of life”.

In a remarkable story taking him through 50 countries, Leigh tells how he came face to face with a mountain lion in North America, cycled in minus 40 degree temperatures in Tibet, and how he feared death after losing a 10 litre bag of water in the sweltering Australian desert.

He has been robbed of everything by ladyboy prostitutes, battered by monstrous waves in the South Pacific, sung to bears to prevent them attacking him, been detained by police in Tibet and accosted by armed Russian soldiers.

And he has experience the brilliance and the beauty of all aspects of the planet and human (and wild) life.
